Learn about Birdbox
Vision Statement
To provide competitive user-centered access to avian knowledge
Description
Birdbox is a digital interactive field guide meant to help in the
identification of birds. Currently this database is populated with
common birds from Colorado, including birds commonly found in
zoos. Without Birdbox, the traditional and most realible source of
avian identification is found in bulky 800+ paper field guides.
This can be difficult for inexperienced users and can be damanged
in the field. Birds are everywhere, but for many budding ornithologist
there wasn't a clear way to translate what they saw in the field into
a field guide.
Birdbox is that solution
Birdbox is a simple and user-friendly alternative to traditional
methods for identification. It works by having users select a few
common sources for identification. These choices were decided based
on what the typical layman or even experienced users would notice
when seeing a bird in the field. These are some of the most notable
traits that make identification simple.
Birdbox works with a few simple steps:
Show us colors that you saw
Give us the rough size of the bird
Choose any additional notable features you think of
That's it. Start searching now!
Design Anaylsis and Breakdown
The size selection is determined by the following:
The average length of each bird in the database

The average mass of each bird in the database

The average wingspan of each bird in the databse
